Who Makes the Change?

The documentary is based on my MSc field study performed in the Amazon to evaluate the local impact of policy reforms reflecting the Climate Agenda on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD).
In this short documentary, the story of Jesuina Braga Alves (Jo) illustrates the livelihood of many small scale farmers in the Brazilian Amazon whose survival has been challenged by changes on the climate and consequent top-down reform on policies.
To reduce forest emissions small scale farmers have faced personal and technical difficulties to phase out slash-and-burn agricultural practices and implement agroforestry as a sustainable alternative to produce their food crops while restoring forest landscapes.
Small scale farmers are on the forefront of forest conservation and are the most legitimate actors to represent the forest. Therefore, decision makers should engage those actors and consider their needs and obstacles to achieve the global common goal for reducing emissions from deforestation and mitigate climate change.

Maria Isabela Hartz has lived a spirited life illuminated with inspiration, learning, teaching and healing. Her life, like her art work, is devotional, a living prayer dedicated to sharing a divine vision of love with the world. Borne in Rio de Janeiro she was already a budding artist at the the age of 18 months. Maria has spent most of her life living in nature away from the bustle of urban centers. She has lived the spiritual life in the Amazon Rainforest with the Santo Daime as a disciple of its spiritual leader Padrinho Sebastiao.  This experience, which included 3 years of celebacy, had a profound influence on her life and art, enabling her to meet her Divine Self and have a kundalini awakening. For a few years she also had a chance to live in the USA where she was able to exhibit her work, as well as teach with Alex Grey and Pablo Amaringo, helping art students on their path towards intentional artistic evolution. Currently living in Rio de Janeiro, her avid art is still actively evolving as she continues to paint, draw and teach, always seeking new opportunities to exhibit, distribute and promote her work. Her holy mission is to create a foundation with an institute, gallery and museum of art, science and religion. This sacred site can be an international pilgrimage point and place where struggling artists, particularly those from the third world, can engage in their artwork. With countless contributions of inspiration and insight, healing and hope, love and learning, Maria Isabela Hartz wonderful Work has a blessed life of its own and is destined to transform, heal and awaken people in the many ages to come.

O avesso de "Avatar"

bem. Você já foi à Amazônia? Já 
esteve no meio de índios? Já 
tomou o chá dos índios?

 
   — Eureka! Sabia que tinha 
bagulho no meio! 
   

     — Confesso que sou ligado 
numa mentalidade indígena. 
Não interessa se as suas 
divindades existem ou não: eles 
creem na natureza, como, aliás, 
também as culturas africanas, e 
essa reverência é salutar, e o 
conhecimento que eles tentam 
preservar tem um valor que só 
agora começa a ser 
reconhecido. Não são só os 
índios, mas qualquer 
grupamento cujos valores são 
destruídos. Se lembra da tal da 
lenda esquecida de que quando 
o mar recua ele depois volta 
com violência? Se ela tivesse se 
disseminado nas escolas do 
sudeste asiático, muita gente 
em vez de ficar imóvel, pasma, 
quando o mar recuou, teria se 
salvado, e não apenas aquelas 
da tal aldeia isolada onde este 
conhecimento permanecia. A 
tal da corrente sináptica da 
árvore das almas dos 
aborígines do filme é 
exatamente isso: a informação 
compartilhada entre as 
culturas, e não sua destruição 
em troca de dinheiro e poder, 
produz uma cadeia de 
conhecimento que leva a uma 
evolução em progressão 
geométrica. Essa evolução vem 
sendo refreada pelas 
contradições da natureza 
humana. Curiosamente, a 
palavra da moda, na internet, é 
compartilhar! Tou te dizendo, 
rapaz, a salvação virá daí, 
quando as sociedades tribais 
que se multipolarizam na rede 
se organizarem, como na 
revolta que acontece no 
planeta Pandora. A revolução 
final nascerá da canalização da 
informação e do conhecimento 
perdidos para a harmonia 
ecossocial...
